Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are a massive part of just about every piece of electronic equipment that we have in our everyday lives. The computer you use, the phone in your pocket, your television, and so much more rely on these boards.

The creation of a circuit board from start to finish typically takes a substantial amount of time given all of the processes that are involved. It starts with the initial idea and moves on to the design, which then needs to be tested before it can be fully manufactured and produced.

The military is often considered to be at the forefront in the development of many types of electronic technology, and many of the military’s innovations have made their way into the commercial sector. Circuit boards are commonly used in the military for a host of different applications, such as missile targeting systems, drones, navigation, surveillance, and more.

Good often isn’t good enough in regard to certain types of work. This certainly applies to the creation of electronic equipment and components that are supposed to be highly accurate and highly effective.

PCBs tend to be very crowded, and it can become difficult to connect the needed components to both sides of the boards. Often, the best way to get the room you need on the board – and to affix all the proper elements to the PCB board – is through the use of blind and buried vias.

Surface mount technology (SMT) is a design and fabrication process that replaces the through-hole mounting of PCB (printed circuit board) components with direct placement on the printed circuit board surface. It is something that is at work in the vast majority of PCB designs tucked inside modern electronics.

The use of a prototyping board might be a fun thing for the DIY scientists and creators in the world, but building a “one-off” project is pretty labor-intensive. It involves the use of that “breadboard” or prototyping board, a schematic, and all of the steps that are required to build the circuit board from scratch.

Printed circuit boards are often used in military applications. Those that are used in these rough environments will need to be highly reliable because they will often have to function in harsh conditions.

At the most basic level, an electronic circuit is a collection of various components that will perform a defined function. The electrical circuit will contain a range of active and passive components including transistors, diodes, capacitors, resistors, etc.
